CeNTI produces coated fabrics with recycled ISOPREP PP

Mon, 06 June, 2022

CeNTI is deeply committed to contribute to the change from the current linear economy model to a circular economy model, and to develop new added-value products using sustainable and recycled raw-materials, as well as solvent-free processes with lower environmental impact. Using recycled Polypropylene (PP) obtained from ISOPREP chemical recycling plant, CeNTI successfully produced coating formulations with 50% of this material. The formulation was coated onto a PP-based non-woven by slot die extrusion on a roll-to-roll process. A coated textile based on a PP monomaterial was produced allowing its recycling through ISOPREP process at end of life.

ISOPREP project offers an innovative approach for a sustainable, solvent-based, and cost-effective closed-loop recycling process for PP carpet piles. The ISOPREP process allows the reduction of carbon emissions and dependency on fossil-based resources. The properties of the virgin quality recycled PP resulting from the process were evaluated and compared with fossil-based alternatives.
